Kristen Layton, MS

Arunodaya Program Advisory Committee Member


Ms. Layton is on the advisory board of Ek Kadam Aur’s Arunodaya Program. She is an international consultant specializing in the education of children with disabilities, particularly those who are blind and Deafblind. Previously, Kristen held the position of Director at Perkins India within the International Division of Perkins School for the Blind. Prior to her tenure with Perkins India organization, she served as the Director of Strategy, Innovation, and Learning at Perkins International. Kristen  also worked for the University of Maryland’s National Deaf-Blind Project, the Helen Keller National Center for Deaf-Blind Youths and Adults, and as a special education teacher in a New York Public School.


During her time in Amman, Jordan, in 2010, Kristen played a pivotal role in launching Perkins International's programs in the Middle East and North Africa. Additionally, she led the team at Education Development Center, Inc., in the establishment of the International Inclusive Schools Network. Kristen significantly contributed to the work of Severe Disabilities graduate program at Boston College while serving as a Project Coordinator.


Kristen's obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from State University of New York at Plattsburg and a Master of Science degree in Special Education from Hunter College of the City University of New York.
